I recently received a shipment from Bumble Bee tuna containing several of the new flavor options to try. The following are my thoughts and opinions on the items:
In their premium canned tuna line, Bumble Bee has developed two new varieties: Pesto & Olive OIl and Ginger, Soy & Olive Oil.
The Ginger, Soy and Olive Oil variety has a very flavorful Asian flair. I enjoyed an entire can over a bed of homegrown lettuce and arugula, topped with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds. This made for a lovely Springtime lunch, and is definitely a variety I plan to purchase again in the future. Because it is so full of flavor (and because it is packed in olive oil) there’s no need to add salad dressing if adding it to a salad. Personally, I would say it is a tad bit saltier than it needs to be. I also think it would be great if Bumble Bee would consider offering these traditional tuna cans with a pop tab top for easy grab-and-go open-and-eat options.
There are two new flavors in the snack kits: Rosemary, Garlic and Sea Salt, and Cheesy Tuna Melt
I love the small and convenient packaging, so easy to throw in purse, backpack or sports bag as you fly out the door. Since they are shelf stable, these Snack on the Run kits are great for stocking up. They are also a terrific high protein, ready-to-eat, portion controlled snack complete with tuna salad, crackers and even a spoon.
A couple of things to consider with the Snack on the Run kits: just as the packaging suggests, this is a snack, and in my opinion, not filling enough to be considered a meal. If you wanted to enjoy one of these for lunch, I’d suggest supplementing with a vegetable and yogurt on the side. And if you keep track of daily calories, take note that the calories for the rosemary flavor total 300, and 330 for the cheesy variety.
Bumble Bee has two new flavors in the seasoned pouches: Sriracha, as well as Lemon, Sesame and Ginger
The day after my son returned home from college, he and I tried the sriracha flavor. We both got a kick out of the clever fold-out, snap-in-place mini spoon. Similar to the Snack on the Run! Kits, these portioned portable pouches (try saying that 5 times fast!) are super convenient for on-the-go eating. They would also be terrific stock up options to keep at your desk, or for college students to keep on hand in their dorms. Personally, we both found the sriracha flavor a bit too bold, almost overpowering the tuna. Given this, it might be a good option for those that aren’t super-fans of plain tuna.
Disclosure: I was not compensated to write this review, however I did receive free product to try. All of the opinions expressed are completely my own.
